Lazaroo – Saturday, August 8, 2009
Aug 08, 2009 I Lazaroo.
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with full-on ardor:
“…in addition to all the freewill offerings.”
(Ezra 1:6)
You love those times when I give to You from my heart, don’t You, Jesus?
Because I want to.
Not because I have to.
On the other hand, I know You require the tithe – one-tenth of everything I earn.
I could withhold my heart when I obey that command. I could
resent it.
begrudge it.
part with it reluctantly.
I could marshal my excuses and refuse to give You the tithe altogether.
But that’s not who I want to be.
I want to give to give to You gratefully, cheerfully, extravagantly!
The only thing that robs me of that joy…
… is my fear that if I do, I won’t have enough.
O God!
Deliver me from that utterly preposterous lack of faith!
So that everything I give to You –
even the tithe!
will be an offering of my own free will.

Ken Ferry Says:
Too often I’ve pondered holding back my tithes and offerings so that I, too, could live in a bigger house and drive a nicer car. Thank God for memories of the times I had no work, no income, and nothing to give to God. What a heartbreak that was! Houses and cars are mere baubles and trinkets in comparison.
