Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in uncomprehending belief:

“…trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ…”
(1 Peter 1:11)

You predicted the cross, Jesus…

long, long ago –

before Pilate surrendered You to be crucified
before You performed Your first miracle
before You were born
before Your people crossed the Red Sea
before Adam and Eve

and still You came to earth

to suffer and die
for my sins.

You knew in advance how much it would hurt

that they would strip You naked
drive nails into Your hands and feet

lift You high on that hill
on display

to mock You
humiliate You

and still You came

for me.

Why?

I’m not worth that –
not by any fair, reasoned, objective measure.

But love doesn’t calculate, does it?

That’s why You did the unthinkable:

out of love

for me.
