Lazaroo – Monday, October 15, 2012

Stay in listening mode, as you pray aloud the words of this Lazaroo:
“Wail, you who live in the market district…”
(Zephaniah 1:11)
What can I say, Jesus?
That’s exactly where I live:
The market district.
Everywhere I look
people trying to sell me something I don’t need
get me to buy something that profits them.
I’ve lived here long enough that I’ve become pretty savvy.
I tune out most of their sales pitches.
Which is good.
Most of the time.
With one exception:
I’m in danger of becoming a cynic.
In fact, in some areas of my life it’s too late –
I already am one.
Oh sure.
I’ve learned to ignore useless offers, all right…
but I suspect I’m throwing the baby out with the bath water
missing the tiny handful of opportunities
You keep sending to me.
O God!
How do I tell the difference?
When to turn away?
When to pay attention?
Your inner prompt, Holy Spirit…
only You.

Yes so many of us say “you can’t be too careful” .. but then again sometimes we can .. yes fine tuning by prayer .. our abilities to feel and obey the nudging of the Holy Spirit is the answer.
