Lazaroo – Saturday, July 21, 2012

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with eyes that see beyond:
“…our bed is verdant.”
(Song of Songs 1:16)
Pretty romantic stuff, Jesus.
These lovers made their bed outside
in a secluded, green, grassy hideaway
with nothing but trees and sky overhead
surrounded by birds who sang their love song.
Wow.
Right about now there may be a few city dwellers
who are “verdant” with envy!
But perhaps not only because of these lovers’ access
to private, wide-open spaces.
Perhaps also because of their daring
the passion of their love
their active spontaneity
and especially…
their willingness to make their bed
where they found it.
And what about me, Father?
When You move on my heart
whisper in my ear Your assignment
do I offer up excuses –
“this isn’t the place or the time” –
or do I dare – in passionate love for You –
to act spontaneously…
excitedly, obediently
making my bed
here
now
where I find it?
