Lazaroo – Friday, October 28, 2011

Humble yourself before God, as you pray aloud the words of this Lazaroo:
“Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.”
(2 John 1:8)
Why do You do this, Jesus?
Why do You promise to reward me?
Why do You not only tell me to work for my reward…
but then warn me to “Watch out!”
to make sure I get it?
It feels so self-serving!
I should serve You out of the goodness of my heart.
After all, I owe You everything
You owe me nothing.
I don’t need such an incentive, LORD.
I’m better than that.
I’ll just slog away
serving You out of gratitude
without thought of reward.
But I have to wonder –
Are You pleased with me when I come up with a plan…
“better” than Yours?
Am I more righteous than You?
Or do You know what I need to excel
better than I know myself?

also to go along with this passage and prayer Steve included this verse in his references, one we discussed with our elders this past Monday discussing our church’s core values check out the v.20’s instruction … Matt 6:19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
