Lazaroo – Saturday, March 19, 2011

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, watching… learning…
“Elijah said to Elisha, ‘Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?’ ‘Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,’ Elisha replied.”
(2 Kings 2:9)
So here’s Elijah – one of the greatest prophets of all time –
offering to do one more thing for his understudy
before You take him to heaven.
Incredible.
His last day on earth
and he’s thinking of somebody else.
(Maybe he’s wise enough to know that if it’s your last day on earth
that’s what you’d better be thinking about!)
So what does his understudy do?
I might guess the right thing to do is say something like…
“You’ve already done more than enough for me, Elijah.
This is your day.”
Huh-uh.
Instead, his understudy says…
“I want to be twice the prophet you were.”
But here’s the thing that stuns me, Jesus:
You gave it to him.

Yes … what a marvelous response from Elisha .. Wanting even more then was given to Elijah. To be able to do “even’ more for God. Apparently Elijah did a wonderful job with his understudy! God blessed them both.
