Lazaroo – Thursday, July 22, 2010

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with honest self-assessment:
“Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me…‘See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.’”
(Jeremiah 1:9-10)
O Jesus.
Most of us have this thing kind of skewed, don’t we?
People paint You as a kindly Old Gentleman who pats us on the head and tells us to “run along and have a good time.”
We like to quote the Bible verses that tell us to “build and to plant.”
And they’re in there!
I love those Bible verses.
But I’m ashamed to admit I don’t have the same level of affection for very many of Your “destroy and overthrow” verses.
Even though they’re in there, too.
Apparently, there’s a lot of stuff standing…
that needs to be torn down.
Including in my life?
Show me.

Ken Ferry Says:
I did some home remodeling awhile back that included turning a private access to the back deck from the master bedroom and an adjacent small closet into a larger walk-in closet. This improvement would have been impossible without first doing some tearing down and uprooting, destroying and overthrowing.
Yes, we mere mortals tend to view “destroy and overthrow” as a pure negative. But, could that be an indication of our inability to see the big picture rather than that of an out-of-control God?
