Lazaroo – Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in holy wonder:
“After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.”
(Mark 1:14)
John was Your cousin, Jesus –
the man who baptized You
the one who prepared the way for Your ministry
the prophet who boldly declared You to be the Lamb of God
who spoke so highly of You that his closest friends and followers left him
and became Yours.
But after they threw him in prison
You preached on.
This is one of the toughest challenges I face –
continuing to function at a high level
keeping my eyes focused on the task at hand
being able to experience the joy of faithfully following You
while danger, heartache and suffering
plague the lives of people I love.
Make me strong
but not calloused.
Let me feel and deeply respond to their pain
without missing a beat
of my assignment from You.

@Bud. I am not saying that our earthly lives and comfort are umimportant. It is just not the end all or be all in the grand scheme of things. I am sure that John the Baptist held his own life dear. However John had what you and I aspire to have, the sense that there is a plan bigger than our own lives. He gave up his “rights” so that he could be a willing part of this plan.
My frail humanity sits in awe of that.
