Lazaroo – Thursday, May 27, 2010

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with ultra-high motivation:
“This is what the LORD says: ‘…I will not turn back my wrath. Because he pursued his brother with a sword, stifling all compassion, because his anger raged continually and his fury flamed unchecked.’”
(Amos 1:11)
So let me see if I understand this, Jesus…
If I allow my anger to burn out of control…
and if I do this over and over again
until it so consumes me that I no longer care how it affects others…
that may trigger in You
a similar response
toward me?
I don’t think I want that.
Which means…
I’ve got to get control of my anger
before my anger gets control of me.
I’ve got to stop it in its tracks every day before the sun goes down
and not close my eyes in sleep until I succeed.
That will be extremely hard to do.
But I have absolutely no choice.

Sam Says:
I read the whole chapter after this, and I get this, but had another thought. If we as individuals, as a group, as a nation, continually violate God’s wishes and covenants, selfishly going our own way, harboring anger and resentment, destroying relationships and stomping on others to advance our own agendas (going after our brother with a sword without pity, as in v 11), we will face punishment, unless we turn from our ways and do things HIS way. We simply can’t ‘rip open the pregnant women’ (v 13), which to me means destroying the seed of growth in someone else, to ‘advance our own borders’ without paying the price.
I’m no Biblical scholar, but that’s my two cents’ worth.
