So often in my life I have been told to memorize Bible verses; that I needed to hide as much of God’s word in my heart as I possibly could. While I can understand that logic, it always seemed flawed to me. Here’s why.

I LOVE food. Especially well-prepared, creative food. Sushi is one of my food passions at the moment. I can’t get enough of the stuff! However, that does not mean that I am stuffing as much sushi down my throat as I can possibly stand for each meal of each day. I like to savor it–to slowly eat each bite, to savor the varying textures and flavors with every taste.

It’s the same for me with scripture. I don’t want to cram as much scripture in my brain as I possibly can before suffering a mental breakdown. I want to savor it–to relish it, to dissect its meaning and God’s intentions through it until I am thoroughly satisfied.

You are so welcome, Kim! Aren’t you glad God doesn’t compare us to other people and is so willing to meet us where we are?

Thank you for starting this. Not everyone knows how to start a relationship with God and sometimes advise you get can intimidate you when you feel like you are not doing as much as others. I appreciated the fact that you tried to get the “rest of us” to strengthen our daily bond.
