Lazaroo – Monday, March 2, 2009

Mar 02, 2009 I Lazaroo.

“Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.” (Matthew 3:3)

Jesus, You’re All-Powerful. You can go wherever You like, whether the path is straight or crooked.

You don’t even need a path.

Why would You tell me to do something for You that You can do far better Yourself?

Unless this is about Your way…into me.

You could crash in and overpower me, drop me to my knees, force me to humble myself before You. But that’s not what You want, is it?

The only thing You want from me is what I truly want to give.

O God! I – I want to give it all!

Is there anything crooked in what I’m thinking, saying or doing that is keeping us apart? Please show me. And please – help me get it straight with You.

Now.

I agree with you, John. The family of God is truly amazing. What a joy it is to have you take it even deeper into our Lazaroo family!

What a challenge you are facing, Bill. The death of a young person is one of the brutally toughest realties we face on this earth. I’m so glad God worked in your life through Lazaroo to prepare you for what you are about to face.

  5. Bill Wall Says:

Thanks everybody for the comments left! They are great to hold you strong when you feel most disconnected of all! I am going to the funeral of a young boy that passed last week today and really needed connected and think Lazaroo came through for me…will jump back on afterward. God bless all and have a great day

I’m so glad that powerful thought lodged itself deep in your heart, Jennifer!

My wife is much like you, in that regard. Other than her precious smile when she’s singing in the choir, she doesn’t show a lot outwardly in worship. But she is an amazingly passionate woman with an enormous capacity for love. She is the most authentic Christian I know. Her relationship with God runs deep.

I am SO glad God doesn’t judge us by our outward appearance. And I am thrilled you are joining us for this Lazaroo adventure.

Steve – thank you for your sermon on Sunday. It really made me understand that my relationship with God is ‘MY’ relationship. I would look at other people in church that would openly worship and really seemed moved by the Holy Spirit. I knew I could never be that way. Now I know it doesn’t matter. God knows what is in my heart and that is what I need to focus on; 60 seconds with God does make a difference.

  8. Steve Says:

Thanks for the uplifting words, B.J. – especially the “Dial-a-Prayer” reference. Some of you know my dad founded “Dial-a-Prayer” in 1955 and @ age 82, is still going strong (812.473.PRAY). It will be interesting to see if I’m able to follow in his footsteps with Lazaroo 54 years from today.

BTW, B.J., your “red light” prayers have convicted me. I pray at red lights too – for them to change! 🙂

  9. B J Says:

Great stuff! It’s the modern day “dial a prayer”. It has already helped me with my prayer life. To test the 60 second theory I have been praying at every red light I catch when I’m driving and actually seem to get more like 90 seconds of prayer in before most lights change. Never formal – just pouring out my heart to God – it’s how I survive every day!

Thank you for spurring us along to that deeper and truly intimate relationship with THE Almighty! I need this and am committing to this!”

Man, Brent. Just when I thought my day couldn’t get any better, you wrote this. You are exactly what this whole thing is for – BTCchurch, Lazaroo, all of it.

Of every good thing you said, the most important was your statement that you are committing to the every day Lazaroo challenge. It is that consistency that is going to absolutely transform your life.

You are so welcome – thank you for trying Lazaroo! We hoped and prayed God might use it to jump-start somebody’s daily 1on1 time with Jesus. I’m glad you’re using the Scriptures at the bottom of the prayer to take you even deeper into God’s Word. That’s exactly what we hoped a growing number of our Lazaroos would do.

    You’re an answer to prayer!

Are you kiddin’ me, Jeff? This is great stuff, man. Bring it.

  15. Steve Says:

Jennie – thanks for your encouraging words that have ignited my own day.

  16. Jeff Says:

It is interesting to me, that with God, we must operate in the counter-intuitive mode. Our fallen world influences us to get what’s ours, be proud, never surrender lest we lose our freedom. It fascinates me that God’s ways come crossways with that and provides true freedom through surrender.

I believe that it is our obedience that brings us closer to Him. Not a legalistic obedience, but an obedience based on love and the desire to be connected. (Isa 55:8, Rom 5:19, Rom 6:16)

Steve, these are my thoughts as I go through these daily Lazaroos. If this type of feedback isn’t appropriate in this venue, please let me know. I surely do not want to be a hinderence.
