Apr 11, 2009 I Lazaroo.

“To God’s elect, strangers in the world.”
(1 Peter 1:1)

I’m a stranger here.

I’ve got to face it, embrace it:  This isn’t home.

I don’t fit.  I’m out of place.  You don’t want me to settle in, get comfortable, put down roots.  I don’t belong here and never will.

I’m on the Titanic.

You invite me to eat, sleep, work, play and worship on this ship.

Temporarily.

You do expect me to take care of it – but without becoming attached, distracted or engrossed.

You want me to show love to my fellow passengers – all the while warning them of the one fact that is never far from my own mind:

It’s going down.

You’ve put an ache inside me for my real home, Jesus – the place You are even now preparing especially for me.

And this isn’t it.

Some times I think we overlook the first portion of this verse, it’s just as important as the last. I too look forward to my real home for we are just strangers on this earth. It’s a temporary dwelling place because of the first portion of the verse.”To God’s elect” We were chosen, bought at a price and not with silver or gold, something more costly, more precious. The blood of our savior, who has gone to prepare that place for us that where He is we might be also. Praise the Lord that we are strangers on this earth! Praise Him that we have been chosen ! Let all God’s elect praise Him!

love the analogy. since i’m a visual person this makes a lot more sense to me than how i had pictured being a traveler previously! thanks, pastor steve, for your God-given insights into the mystery that is His Word. it really is new and fresh every day, just like He promised!

It can be so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of this world. Humans sure have done a lot to make this place “feel” like home. I love the idea of being travelers here, on our way home, given the opportunity to help others to understand this truth – that even though life sometimes makes us feel like this is all there is, that there is really so much more in store for all of us.

    What a great challenge!

My roots must only be in Jesus! For we are only here for a little time then we will go to our true home in heaven, although we must, do what it is Jesus has planned for us, or there may not be the home in heaven.
