Lazaroo – Saturday, June 13, 2009

Jun 13, 2009 I Lazaroo.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with lavish love:

“Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.”
(Proverbs 1:8)

This is harder for me than it should be, Jesus.

I know I ought to be able to learn from the people who reared me as a child.

But I struggle.

For one thing, I tend to think now that I’m older, I don’t need their advice.

As soon as I say that, though, it sounds foolish. If what they taught me was true, I probably need it now as much as I did then.

Maybe even more.

Okay.

But there’s one other issue.

These people were flawed. They may have done the best they could, but there were times when their shortcomings hurt me.

Deeply.

Please rid me of those painful memories!

…so the wisdom they tried to give me can soak all the way in.

My dad is gone and my mother is disbled. I have become the parent of my mother. And yes, I miss it when it was the other way around. I pray that people will not take their parents for granted.
