Pray the words of this Lazaroo out loud, with deep appreciation:

“… appoint elders in every town, as I directed you.”
(Titus 1:5)

Down through the ages You’ve appointed elders, Jesus –

going all the way back to the time when Your people were in Egypt
on into the Jews’ conquest of the land You had Promised them
for centuries after they became an established nation
during Your amazing, 33-year ministry on this earth
at the birth and spread of the early church
all the way to the present.

You’ve entrusted these older leaders with the authority to

decide disputes
make decisions
pray for the sick

impart spiritual gifts
shepherd Your people
be examples to Your flock
direct the affairs of Your church.

And one day in heaven I will watch with wonder

as Your 24 white-robed elders leave their thrones
remove their own crowns of gold
lay them before Your throne

and fall down before You
in extravagant worship.
