Mar 23, 2014 I Lazaroo.

 

Grasp the unvarnished truth, as you pray  aloud the words of this Lazaroo:

“You hurled me into the deep…”
(Jonah 2:3)

The shallows are one thing, Jesus…

the deep is quite another.

So long as my feet can touch bottom

I have the illusion I’m in control.

But when You hurl me into the deep

my illusions sink down, down, down
until they’re out of sight

and I’m left up here on the surface treading water with all my might

spinning my head around
checking frantically for sharks

waves tall as houses

crashing over my head
leaving me breathless, sputtering.

That’s when I’m reminded of what’s been true all along:

All I have is You.
