Lazaroo – Tuesday, December 20, 2011
Dec 20, 2011 I Lazaroo.
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with renewed determination:
“…he must be…one…who is self-controlled…”
(Titus 1:7-8)
Fascinating, Jesus.
Following You is not only a matter of
giving myself to You
learning submission to You
You want me to control
myself.
That would be the new me
taking full charge of the old me.
When the old me rises up
I’ve got to beat it back down
make it my slave.
Otherwise, I’m
making deposits in a bank vault with no lock
walking into a gunfight unarmed
wading through a swamp without insect repellent.
Lacking self-control I’m doomed to be
robbed
shot
bitten.
Controlling myself isn’t merely a nice option, is it?
It’s an absolute requirement.
It’s more important for me to have self-control than it is for
a law student to pass the bar exam
a scientist to win the Nobel Prize
a football player to win the Super Bowl
Please, Holy Spirit.
Help me.

Scott B Says:
I like how in this passage and prayer I am required to exercise self-control, yet I’ll never do it in my strength and so the prayer comes down to … God help me! Made me remember that He promises to give us grace when we’re humble and in contrast He’ll resist us if we’re proud. Which in essence being proud is the description of us when we don’t have self-control but are controlled by self … to be resisted by God, scary place to find ourselves.
