Lazaroo – Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Oct 28, 2009 I Lazaroo.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may…escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”
(2 Peter 1:4)

I long to make good on that escape, Jesus!

I’m weary of slogging through the knee-deep corruption of this world – caused by those who

soil purity
mock virtue
scorn morality
compromise integrity.

It’s taking its toll on me.

In fact, I’m part of the problem – more than I want to admit.

I’m sick to death of losing my own battle to evil desires!

Each day I vow will be different

and some days it is.

But on far too many days I have

declined to exercise my authority in You
and caved in to Satan’s temptation.

Please forgive me.

Those great and precious promises of Yours are filled with power.

The past is not my future!

In You

I will prevail.

I fully accept those promises,as I do His shed Blood.Through this we will escape a second death. I fall now and then and my Lord remains Faithfull through His Promises. HE picks me up and dusts me off, sets me about my way. Psalm 23 is so fitting in this picture.

    Good question, Ken!

As you know, we revisit every book of the Bible every 66 days. 66 days ago, on August 23, we actually focused on the very phrase you noticed we left out this time – and devoted the entire Lazaroo that day to it: “…so that…you may participate in the divine nature…” (2 Peter 1:4)

You’re right – that was a good one! In fact, today’s Lazaroo is the third I’ve pulled from that very same incredibly rich verse.

Since I’ve promised to keep each Lazaroo within a 60-second time frame, that forces me to focus each day’s Lazaroo on a single, powerful, Biblical principle. Of course, that means I’m unable to do all the extra teaching around that principle that makes for the fullest possible understanding.

My hope is that the deep-dive intense focus of each Lazaroo makes up for our inability to cover the full context!

I’m curious why you cut the heart out of this verse: “Through these (His glory and goodness, see previous verse) He has given us His very great and precious promises so that, through them, we may PARTICIPATE IN HIS DIVINE NATURE AND, SO, escape the corruption in this world caused by evil desires.” (kind of NIV) Vince Lombardi wasn’t the first to say that the best defense is a good offense.
