“To God’s elect, strangers in the world.”
(1 Peter 1:1)

I’m a stranger here.

I’ve got to face it, embrace it:  This isn’t home.

I don’t fit.  I’m out of place.  You don’t want me to settle in, get comfortable, put down roots.  I don’t belong here and never will.

I’m on the Titanic.

You invite me to eat, sleep, work, play and worship on this ship.

Temporarily.

You do expect me to take care of it – but without becoming attached, distracted or engrossed.

You want me to show love to my fellow passengers – all the while warning them of the one fact that is never far from my own mind:

It’s going down.

You’ve put an ache inside me for my real home, Jesus – the place You are even now preparing especially for me.

And this isn’t it.

Some times I think we overlook the first portion of this verse, it’s just as important as the last. I too look forward to my real home for we are just strangers on this earth. It’s a temporary dwelling place because of the first portion of the verse.”To God’s elect” We were chosen, bought at a price and not with silver or gold, something more costly, more precious. The blood of our savior, who has gone to prepare that place for us that where He is we might be also. Praise the Lord that we are strangers on this earth! Praise Him that we have been chosen ! Let all God’s elect praise Him!
