“Nadab and Abihu fell dead before the LORD when they made an offering with unauthorized fire before him.” (Numbers 3:4)

What do I do with this, LORD?

You haven’t changed since that time. This too is Who You Are – just as surely as You’re the One who gave Your only Son to die for me on the cross.

Why did You kill these two men for something that appears so insignificant? I’ve done far worse. Will You kill me?

David utterly abused his power as king. He committed adultery with Bathsheba, then covered up her pregnancy by killing her husband who was away at war. But You didn’t kill David.

Did You give David another chance because he was one of Your closest friends?

O Jesus. That’s my only hope, isn’t it?

I long to become best friends with You.

Oh, Jennie. You’re right! Your best friend in Idaho can’t begin to do for you everything Jesus can. She can’t even listen to you as lovingly and wisely as Jesus can. Thank God for our earthly best friends! But none of them can even begin to touch the closeness, the intimacy and the true help of our Best Friend Jesus.

I just flashed back on an old hymn we used to sing when I was a child:

There’s not a Friend like the lowly Jesus:
No, not one! no, not one!
None else could heal all our souls’ diseases:
No, not one! no, not one!

    Jesus knows all about our struggles;
He will guide ’til the day is done:
There’s not a Friend like the lowly Jesus:
No, not one! no, not one!

No friend like Him is so high and holy,
No, not one! no, not one!
And yet no friend is so meek and lowly,
No, not one! no, not one!

There’s not an hour that He is not near us,
No, not one! no, not one!
No night so dark, but His love can cheer us,
No, not one! no, not one!

Did ever saint find this Friend forsake him?
No, not one! no, not one!
Or sinner find that He would not take him?
No, not one! no, not one!

Was e’er a gift like the Savior given?
No, not one! no, not one!
Will He refuse us the bliss of heaven?
No, not one! no, not one!
