Matthew 26:17-56

This bread is your body
this wine is your blood
at your Last Supper
with the people you love

telling all of your disciples
on that night they’d scatter
abandon the Son of Man
like you didn’t even matter

and often like Peter
I’ve said I’ll never deny you
but when you need me the most
I haven’t stuck beside you

caving into the devil
when I get a little scared
but in the Garden of Gethsemane
you stood right there

well aware of Judas coming
for the kiss of betrayal
allowing them to arrest you
instead of calling your angels

Lord, if you can do that
then I can swallow my pride
and tell my friends I believe
in the One who came for me and died
