Lazaroo – Saturday, May 23, 2009

1 comment, May 23, 2009

“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you.”
(Galatians 1:6)

I’m astonished too, Jesus.

Way too often I’ve been like the apostle Peter – declaring his undying devotion to you one moment and denying You the next.

How hard it must be to enjoy my brave words of commitment, when You know how soon my vows will be broken!

But You know my heart.

You know when I make my promises to You, I’m absolutely sincere.

I have to believe that matters to You – even when my actions make my words look like a bold-faced lie.

Yes, Peter denied You.

But You forgave him and took him back.

You chose to stick with him, in spite of his flaws.  Even though he stumbled again and again, he finished amazingly well.

O God, please!

Hang in there with me.

Thank you, God, that your justice is tempered with mercy. Help me to be grateful for that, but even more, help me live that example to others.
