Lazaroo – Sunday, November 27, 2011

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, from a heart bursting with hope:

“Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. ‘Go, look over the land,’ he said, ‘especially Jericho.’ So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.”
(Joshua 2:1)

Some people have unsuccessfully tried to sanitize Rahab’s profession, Jesus.

They’ve suggested Rahab must have been an innkeeper
that Joshua’s two spies wouldn’t visit a prostitute.

Why do they try to “fix” what she did for a living?

Because Rahab married Salmon
gave birth to Boaz
became the great-great-grandmother of David.

“What?” they protest. “Righteous King David, a man after God’s own heart

descended from a prostitute?!”

They can’t bear it, because David was your ancestor, Jesus –

which means that You
are descended from a prostitute.

But the very thing that scandalizes them

gives me hope!

It tells me that the God who gave Rahab another chance

will do the same for me.
