Lazaroo – Tuesday, March 3, 2009

“The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, ‘When you help the Hebrew women in childbirth, if it is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.’ The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king told them to do; they let the boys live.” (Exodus 1:15-17)

I know You want me to submit to my country’s leaders, Jesus – so long as they don’t tell me to disobey You.

But You alone know my heart. Do I fear You as much as those midwives did? If I had to choose, would I risk imprisonment, torture – even my very life – rather than disobey You?

I hope so, but better people than I have been certain they would give it all up for You…and been proven wrong.

O God! Make Your strength rise up within me!

This Lazaroo reminds me how difficult it is to keep our mind’s focused on what it should be. We can walk around say – even with conviction, that we would die before denouncing our Savior. We can believe, somehow, that our faith is more unwavering than Peter’s as He denied Him thrice.

Lord, please help me to let go of any superior thought that comes in my mind and help me embrace humility. Let me trust not in my own bold announcements of my faith, but instead, trust that YOU can do all things in me.
