Lazaroo – Friday, July 31, 2009

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with deep reverence:
“As the LORD was with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon to make his throne even greater than the throne of my lord King David!”
(1 Kings 1:37)
I can’t help but wonder how David felt when he heard these words, Jesus.
He was old…
suffering…
bedfast…
under great stress…
near death.
And suddenly, he hears the trusted captain of his bodyguard blurt out his hope that David’s young, inexperienced successor will be greater than David.
Did he struggle with emotions of loss…isolation…even jealousy?
Perhaps so.
For a moment.
But in spite of his fears, Your Word tells me the next thing David did, while lying on his bed.
He worshiped.
He worshiped!
O Jesus.
As I prepare to stand before You
May I, by faith, invite those who come after me to stand on my shaky shoulders
and surpass me.
