Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, as the hair rises on the back of your neck:

“‘Skin for skin!’ Satan replied. ‘A man will give all he has for his own life.’”
(Job 2:4)

So that’s what Satan believes, Jesus.

He’s seen so many people do this so many times
that he believes it about all of us –

all the way down to the core of his evil heart.

Of course…he’s the one who tempts us to behave that way.

He hijacks the healthy sense of self-preservation You’ve built into our brains and attempts to twist it into

“me-first-at-any-cost.”

Apparently, he’s pretty successful with that approach.
I see it in one form or another, everywhere I look.

I see way too much of that tendency in myself.

It’s actually a religion with some people:

“You’ve got to look out for #1,” they solemnly say.

Actually, they’re right.
I do.

Just so long as I remember that #1…

is You.
