Lazaroo – Sunday, May 20, 2012
May 20, 2012 I Lazaroo.
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with sober determination:
“Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.”
(Jeremiah 1:17)
It’s my choice, isn’t it, Jesus?
I don’t have to be afraid of people.
It doesn’t matter if they’re
bigger
stronger
smarter
richer
better equipped
better connected
better educated
more experienced
above me in the food chain.
I have You.
And You’re enough.
Did I say, “You’re enough?”
Forgive me.
You’re infinitely more than enough.
But it’s my choice.
I don’t have to believe in You.
Of course, once I make that choice
there are consequences.
The moment I decide You don’t exist
when I assume You’re not there for me
I’m left with an awful conclusion:
I’m on my own.
All alone.
There’s no one to come alongside me.
Nobody’s got my back.
In that case, I have no basis for courage
but only pure, raw, stark
terror.
My call.
