Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in wonder and worship:

“This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”
(John 1:30)

That’s a mouthful, Jesus.

But it’s more.
It’s a revelation.

Your cousin John was older than You –
that’s why he said You came after him.

As he watched You walking along

he recognized the power of Your Spirit –
that’s why he said You surpassed him.

But when he said You were “before” him…

that’s when he acknowledged
that in You he was seeing none other

than the eternal God
come in the flesh.

O Jesus!
