Lazaroo – Sunday, June 14, 2009

1 comment, Jun 14, 2009

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with Banzai belief:

“You know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.”
(James 1:3)

I should know this, Jesus.

But I keep forgetting.

All too often when my faith is tested –

I fail the test.

At least, at first.

When setbacks, disappointments – or outright catastrophes – arrive in my life, I’m seldom grateful for the perseverance they’re supposed to bring.

I hate them!

I hate how they make me feel.

I hate the time, money and agonizing grief they cost me.

Please forgive me when I lash out in frustration…anger…or in doubt.

Forgive me for entertaining – even for a nanosecond – Satan’s vile suggestion that You have abandoned me.

It is in those incredibly vulnerable moments that I most need You to remind me, Holy Spirit:

That the invaluable perseverance I’m buying at such a high price

is worth it.

Sometimes the “come to Me and I will give you rest” flies in the face of this notion. It is hard to be thankful when you are getting the opposite of what you are looking for (i.e. rest). This is where trust and surrender come in. We must trust that God knows what we need more than we do at any given moment and be thankful for that.
