Lazaroo – Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Open a vein and bleed the words of this Lazaroo aloud to God:

“…night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.”
(2 Timothy 1:3)

Give me this kind of passionate love and concern for others, Father.

Deliver me from namby-pamby prayers!

Tear open my heart until I am able to care for others as much as I care for myself.

Then rip it open still more until I have the ability to hurt for others more than I hurt for myself.

I know.

That’s not natural.

But I’m sick to death of “natural.”

I want supernatural.

Isn’t that what You did for me, Jesus?

You left heaven
lowered Yourself to earth
sacrificed Yourself on the cross
so I could live forever.

How dare I offer

weak
insipid
perfunctory
lackluster prayers

for anyone You died for and love every bit as much as You love me?

Change me.

All the way down to my self-serving, self-absorbed, self-centered prayers.
