Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, from a heart gushing with gratitude:

“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
(John 1:17)

It’s not either/or is it, Father?

It’s both.

The law You gave Your people through Moses is

straight
true
tough.

It came from You
it’s a reflection of You
it reveals

Your nature
Your personality
Your character.

True, every time I’ve tried to keep the commands of Your law
I’ve run head-on into the brick wall of my own depravity.

But that’s been a good thing

because it reveals my absolute need of a Savior

You, Jesus.

After breaking my will on the hard demands of Your law

Your grace, mercy and compassion

are like finding shelter under a big, strong umbrella
in a cold, driving rain.

But they’re both You – law and grace

the impossibly high standard of Your holiness
assuaged by this outrageous outpouring of love

from Your great heart.
