Lazaroo – Monday, February 15, 2010

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with ardent worship:

“And this is my prayer…that you may be able to discern what is best…”
(Philippians 1:9-10)

That’s what I long to know, Jesus –

not merely what is good

but what is best.

It’s tempting to think I’ve done everything I need to do

when I’ve stopped doing what is wrong.

I know that pleases You – and makes my life better –

but it’s just not enough.

The longer I think about this

the more I realize I’ve spent way too much of my life doing what is merely good.

It’s easy to live that way, because people

like it
praise it
encourage it.

But You’ve called me to something more

You’ve called me to do what is best.

Ironically, I don’t get nearly as much support for that.

The best is often

tougher
more dangerous
harder to understand.

Strengthen me, LORD!

to not only discern what’s best

but to do it.

To discern what is best ought to be the cry of our HEART. If I have learned one thing in my life, it’s always best to stand in the center of His will, even when I don’t understand it at that moment. The Psalmist said “Your word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against you”.
I believe the key to discernment is through the knowledge of God’s word, as the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy,” Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth”. Father ignite in us a fire that no man can extinguish, a burning desire that can only be quenched as our lives are transformed by the renewing of our minds as we drink of Your word!
