Lazaroo – Thursday, August 1, 2013

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with humility:
“When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, ‘Didn’t I tell you not to go?’”
(2 Kings 2:18)
Elisha had every right to say that, Jesus:
“I told you so.”
I’ve said it myself.
When it’s true, it’s hard not to say.
After all, when I tell somebody to do something
and they don’t do it
or when I tell somebody not to do something
and they do it anyway
it stings
makes me feel disrespected.
So when their “better idea” goes down in flames
when my original advice is proved right
it’s hard not to smile smugly
rub their noses in it.
But please, LORD…
help me resist that temptation!
You alone know how often I’ve disregarded the wise advice of others
had it come back to bite me
had to cut myself a big ol’ generous slice
of humble pie.
