Lazaroo – Thursday, June 13, 2013
No comments, Jun 13, 2013
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with God-given courage:
“My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak…”
(James 1:19)
I’ve got this one about half-right, Jesus.
I am slow to speak…
when I shouldn’t be.
Comes a time when the listening is over
when doing what’s right
demands that I speak.
Too often, that’s when I get timid
when my voice becomes
real soft.
I wait for someone else to stick her neck out
look around to see if there’s anyone else
who wants to paint a big ‘ol target on his chest.
I don’t like being shot at.
I don’t relish calling attention to myself
when it means I’ll be
shamed
ridiculed
shunned.
But that’s what You did for me, isn’t it?
They hung You out to dry
and die.
I reckon it’s time I found me some steel
to replace this noodle
I’ve been using for a backbone.
