Lazaroo – Monday, May 27, 2013

Search your heart as you pray aloud the words of this Lazaroo:
“But they persisted until he was too ashamed to refuse. So he said, ‘Send them.’ And they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find him.”
(2 Kings 2:17)
I have one question, Jesus:
Why did Elisha give in to these men?
He knew You had taken his mentor away to be with You.
He was confident Elijah wasn’t coming back.
He knew if he sent 50 men on this futile mission
it would add up to an enormous waste
of resources and time.
Now…if he did it to
make certain he wasn’t mistaken about Elijah’s whereabouts
teach these men to trust his judgment in the future
allow them to put their minds to rest
that’s fine.
But if he was willing to waste their time solely to avoid criticism…
that’s lousy leadership
the coward’s way out.
My question isn’t really about Elisha, is it?
