Lazaroo – Friday, May 10, 2013

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with overwhelmed adoration:
“The angel went to her and said, ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.’ “Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.”
(Luke 1:28-29)
At first, this doesn’t make any sense, Jesus.
An angel appears to Mary
tells her she is “highly favored”
assures her the Lord is with her
and what’s her response?
She’s “greatly troubled!”
Seriously?
I say this with the deepest respect…
but wasn’t she listening?!
Forgive me.
I don’t know what I’d do, either.
Come to think of it, this isn’t the first time You’ve spoken directly to one of Your people
and instead of being overjoyed
they were deeply troubled.
Maybe it has less to do with the message
and more to do with the majesty of the Speaker
in contrast with the mere human who’s listening.
