Lazaroo – Tuesday, February 12, 2013

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with bottomless trust:
“Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions.”
(Ezekiel 2:6)
That’s quite a command, Jesus.
Briers and thorns are no fun. Scorpions aren’t exactly my favorite guests at a picnic, either –
whether You’re speaking literally…or figuratively.
Because, frankly – there are people in my life who remind me of briers and thorns.
Some of them have prickly personalities –
I can say almost nothing to them without their taking offense.
Others are sharply caustic and critical –
more than once their hurtful comments have drawn “blood.”
There have been a few scorpions in my life, too –
people who have become my enemies
whose stings aren’t merely painful
but potentially lethal.
When you tell me not to be afraid of them…
it seems impossible – even unwise – to obey.
Until I realize You’re inviting me to focus not on their power
but Yours.
