Be in awe, as You pray aloud the words of this Lazaroo:

“He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.”
(James 1:18)

There’s nothing like firstfruits, Jesus.

When a person grabs a shovel, hoe or tiller

breaks up hard ground
works the soil
plants seed
waters
weeds

fights off bugs and critters as the tender shoots appear

nurtures them until they blossom and bud
then watches with growing excitement

as the fruit grows and ripens
finally ready for picking!

Firstfruits are precious – the long-awaited reward for patience and countless hours of hard work.

And You’re telling me that’s what I am to You.

At first glance, it doesn’t seem possible.

I’m born too late to be firstfruits, right?

Until I realize what You’re saying:

I’m the firstfruits of all the hard work You’ve performed in Your creation

until now.
