Lazaroo – Friday, January 18, 2013

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, from the depths of your soul:
“You know we never…put on a mask to cover up greed…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:5)
What would that kind of mask look like, Jesus?
What false face might I be tempted to wear to hide my greed?
I want to know.
Because that’s not who I want to be.
I guess I could engage in some activity that appears altruistic –
helping the poor
fighting some dread disease
bringing aid to a third world country
assisting the disabled
conserving earth’s resources
exposing the evils of abortion and euthanasia
caring for the elderly
saving endangered species
rescuing the enslaved and oppressed
campaigning for political reform
ministering to people trapped in addiction
when all the while my only motivation is to make a buck.
There’s nothing wrong with earning a living by helping others, is there?
But what matters to You is which comes first:
the ministry
or the buck?
