Lazaroo – Tuesday, December 4, 2012

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, surging with grateful confidence:
“‘They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,’ declares the LORD.”
(Jeremiah 1:19)
You didn’t promise me I’d never be in a fight, Jesus.
You didn’t tell me it wouldn’t get ugly.
Nowhere in Your Word did You describe Christianity as one long, uninterrupted picnic –
that the birds would sing sweetly for me every morning
that the sun would always shine softly on my face
that the ants wouldn’t
bite my ankles
burrow their way into my sandwich
turn up as floaters in my soda
that there would always be an abundance of money
that I would never get sick
that my closest friends and family members would never
lie to me
desert me
stab me in the back.
You didn’t promise me I’d never be in a fight.
What You promised
is that I’d win.
