Lazaroo – Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Beg God for eyes that see, as you pray aloud the words of this Lazaroo:

“I bought male and female slaves and had other slaves who were born in my house.”
(Ecclesiastes 2:7)

This thing Solomon is bragging about is pretty hard to take, Jesus.

The very idea of buying another human being
is deeply offensive.

But he was proud of it!

It proved how wealthy he was, what power he wielded.

As far as he and others of his day were concerned
this was proof-positive of God’s favor on his life.

How did someone so wise

miss something this huge

so badly?

It had something to do with the culture of his time, didn’t it?

Everybody knew it and accepted it:
Wealthy people owned slaves.

Looking back, we can see how blind they were in that backward age.

So here’s my question:

What cultural sin am I now committing
that people will look back many years from now and

rightfully
Biblically
condemn?
