Lazaroo – Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, seeking understanding:
“…you shall not make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall break down their altars.”
(Judges 2:2)
Okay…
have You softened any on this directive, Jesus?
Obviously, You’re aware that in my day, this kind of behavior would be considered
politically incorrect.
I mean, if I showed up at some religion’s house of worship
started tearing down their objects of worship
I’d be jailed.
On the other hand, I’m reasonably confident that this order didn’t go over all that well in Joshua’s day, either.
Certainly not with the idol worshipers
whose altars You told Your people to destroy.
Let’s suppose – just for a moment – that this order of Yours was still in effect.
At what altar are the people of my culture worshiping?
Well, for one thing:
political correctness.
Maybe one place I could start tearing down that altar
is in my own life.
