Lazaroo – Friday, October 26, 2012

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with God-given courage:
“I am the voice of one calling in the desert…”
(John 1:23)
Me too, Jesus –
or if I’m not…
I need to be willing.
Of course, that’s not my first preference.
It’s tough being out there in that desert!
John was not only in a literal desert
but he was also trying to tell people about You
in a spiritual desert.
True, many people came out to hear him.
Some admired him for his courage.
But others hated him
wanted him dead
finally got their wish.
So among other reasons…
that’s why I’m not overly eager for that voice
to be mine.
But John wasn’t signing up for martyrdom either, was he?
He was just trying to obey You
be faithful to carry out the assignment You gave him.
So am I –
even if it means I’m sometimes that lone voice
calling in the desert.
