Lazaroo – Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with the wisdom of God:
“May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.”
(Ruth 1:17)
That’s an awfully strong statement, Jesus.
It’s one thing to make such a pledge to another human being.
It’s another thing entirely
to invoke Almighty God’s severest curse on me
if I don’t keep my promise.
Ruth wasn’t going to desert her mother-in-law for anything –
even though there was no visible benefit.
As a young widow, if Ruth had wanted to improve her chances to find another husband, the smart play would have been to stay put and send her mother-in-law on her way.
Except for one thing:
This older woman knew You.
She was exceptionally wise.
Seasoned.
Ruth knew her mother-in-law wanted only what was best for Ruth.
Ruth showed wisdom of her own
by recognizing when you find someone of that quality
you stick with them.
