Lazaroo – Sunday, August 5, 2012
No comments, Aug 05, 2012
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, seized with gratitude:
“…foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem.”
(Obadiah 1:11)
Oh, Jesus.
There was a time when the victorious army
divvied up thousands of prisoners
by throwing the dice.
The surviving soldiers
got to take home their share of the plunder –
not just gold, silver, tools, weapons and clothing
but men, women and children.
There was no Geneva Convention to protect them
no such thing as prisoners’ “rights.”
They became instant slaves
totally at the mercy of their captors.
Depending on the roll of the dice you might become the property of someone who would
brutally work you to death in his fields
repeatedly rape you and pass you around to his friends
render you “safe” to work near his wives and daughters
by making you a eunuch.
I don’t know what suffering is, do I?
Help me quit my whining
and start counting my blessings.
