Lazaroo – Friday, July 27, 2012

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with a little less drama:
“Look around and see. Is any suffering like my suffering that was inflicted on me…”?
(Lamentations 1:12)
Sometimes it feels that way, Jesus.
One hit would be enough to handle.
If that’s all it was, I think I could bear up under it.
But it’s when the crises pile up
one after another
that I begin to feel overwhelmed.
It’s bad enough when I see the problem coming a long way off.
At least I can halfway prepare myself for it
when it finally arrives.
But while I’m attempting to deal with that gathering storm
and simultaneously
something shocking occurs
something major
potentially disastrous
totally unexpected
that’s when I’m tempted to start feeling sorry for myself…
until I remember the untold millions of my brothers and sisters
whose horrific agonies of
rape
imprisonment
torture
death
shrink my exaggerated opinion of my own suffering
to the size it actually is.
