Lazaroo – Thursday, June 14, 2012

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with excuseless humility:
“After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant…”
(Luke 1:24)
As good a man as Zechariah was, Jesus…
he didn’t believe the angel You sent to him.
The words he heard seemed like nonsense.
They defied everything he had learned in his long life.
Since he failed to trust Your power to do the impossible, You took away his power of speech.
He disbelieved Your words
and lost his own
giving him time to think.
Which makes me think:
Is there anything I’ve read in the Bible
that seemed too good to be true?
too awful to be fair?
too strange to have actually happened?
What has my disbelief done to me?
Oh, maybe I haven’t instantly become a mute.
But when I sowed the seed of doubt in Your words
have I reaped people’s doubt in mine?
That’s frighteningly close to being unable to speak, isn’t it?
