Lazaroo – Sunday, June 3, 2012
No comments, Jun 03, 2012
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with eyes wide open:
“They will be entangled among thorns…”
(Nahum 1:10)
Just thinking about becoming entangled among thorns sounds unpleasant, Jesus…
but the reality is even worse:
painful
terrifying.
This isn’t the kind of thing that happens when I’m walking attentively along my path.
If there’s a thornbush up ahead
I can spot it well in advance
and steer clear.
Even if a few of its stalks are hidden – growing up inside a nonthreatening bush –
I’ll quickly be able to tell when I push the friendly branch aside
and one or two thorns poke through to stab my flesh.
It hurts
I might bleed
but I’m warned –
not trapped.
The only way I could ever become entangled among thorns is by leaving the path You’ve laid out for me on a dead run.
That’s how to plunge head-long into a mass of thornbushes
that grip me tight
back-to-front
head-to-toe.
