Lazaroo – Friday, April 20, 2012

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in heartfelt gratitude:
“‘Do what seems best to you,’ Elkanah her husband told her.’”
(1 Samuel 1:23)
I love this, Jesus.
While most males in 1120 B.C. were ordering their wives around like slaves…
this husband was treating his wife with respect.
His entire family was expected to go up to Shiloh to offer their annual sacrifice to the LORD.
The trip was commanded by God.
They had made this journey year after year.
This was when Elkanah fulfilled his vow to the LORD.
His wife had always gone before.
Except this year…
Hannah didn’t want to go.
So Elkanah did something shocking in his culture. He told her,
“Do what seems best to you.”
Wow.
The closer I am to Your heart
the less likely I am to follow the offensive customs of my culture
the more likely I am to live Your life of
thoughtful
respectful
considerate
love.
