Lazaroo – Sunday, March 25, 2012
No comments, Mar 25, 2012
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with an open mind and heart:
“Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?”
(Habakkuk 1:13)
The key phrase in that question is, “more righteous,” isn’t it, Jesus?
It’s a comparison.
True, the sins committed by some people
make the sins of others seem like nothing.
By comparison.
But no matter how small
every sin is inexcusable defiance against You.
I know right from wrong.
If I have to stand next to a murderer to make my sin look small
it isn’t small.
How much do I have to steal
before I’m a thief?
How many lies do I have to tell
before I’m a liar?
How many corners do I have to cut
before I’m a cheat?
How many lustful thoughts do I have to entertain
before I’m sexually unfaithful?
Even the righteous
aren’t righteous.
Those we call, “innocent”
aren’t guiltless.
The very best of us
still stink.
