Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with outrageous adoration:

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins…”
(1 John 1:9)

It’s too late for me to do everything right, Jesus!

I haven’t.
I’ve done more wrong than I can begin to remember.

You know not to expect perfection from me in the future, either –

even though You deserve it.

Although I wish I could deliver it –
and in a rush of emotion might even promise it –

it’s not going to happen.

This is me.
This is what You’re working with.

I’m not offering an excuse, LORD!
I’m not telling You I’ve quit trying.

It is my fervent desire

to keep growing
keep striving
keep improving

even though I know perfection will elude me

until heaven.

But knowing this…

You do require one thing of me when I blow it:

that I drop all pretense
and admit the unvarnished truth.
